Japan lost to Paraguay! What a waste, despite being a football dummie i was rooting for our Asian team. But Japan is out although i must commend them on a well played game. It was a tough fight.

I guess a lot of us was really looking forward to the match because all the mamak stalls and cafes at Bandar Menjalara were really packed. Even De Pastry Chef was crowded with people watching the game.

De Pastry Chef

Anyway, the boyfriend was craving for cakes after i fed him with a piece of really delicious and moist chocolate cake during dinner. LOL. It was late and the only bakery shop nearby that’s still open was the De Pastry Shop which only closes at midnight.

Packaging

The selection of dessert and pastries were plenty. All the cakes looks really good and average at the price of RM6-RM7.

The boyfriend bought himself a piece of Hungaria Walnut cake for RM7. I was torn between the blackforest cake or the blueberry cheese cake but in the end decided not to have any LOL.

Hungaria Walnut

The Hungaria Walnut was rather good although i didn’t liked the cream on top which taste too eggy and runny (like King’s cake)… if you know what i mean. I liked that the cake was moist and not overly sweet or too over-whelming. It has a slight coffee taste to it with of course chopped pieces of walnut for crunchiness.

I’ve yet to try the other food available here (sandwiches, pasta, soup) at pretty affordable price. Maybe some other time.

Silver Spoon Trattoria

There’s a new Italian restaurant in town. Hurrah!

Silver Spoon Trattoria is located at Bandar Menjalara – above Ambank at Wisma Menjalara, which is an odd area of Menjalara to have a classy restaurant like Silver Spoon but we are not complaining coz it’s just a drive away from our place.

Silver Spoon

I always love dining in Italian restaurants because of the delicious food but most of all because Italian restaurants always gives a cozy and comfortable ambiance for dining in.

Silver Spoon is no different. The interior is very spacious, elegant and classy. I absolutely love the chandelier!

Watermelon Juice

We were surprised that the place was already completely full by 8pm. The staff had to turn away quite a number of customer because there just wasn’t even a vacant table available.

Given that, i must say the staff were very professional and courteous and fast on their feet. We didn’t had to wait for long for our order to arrive.

weihenstephan weiss
Weihenstephan unfiltered beer

You know what, i found my new favorite beer here. German beer, Weihenstephan (pronounced as Yen-Ste-Fen) is lighter than Killkenny but definitely good.

caeser salad
Caeser Salad

Anyways, we decided to order a salad and 2 main dishes to share. You know how Italian food could make us over stuffed. We didn’t want that.

The Caeser Salad here is a slightly different from those you get from other place. It’s served with poached egg instead of hard boil egg and beef flakes. Bonus is, the egg yolk was runny. Awesome!

spaghetti marinara
Spaghetti Marinara

After the salad we were ready for our second dish, Spaghetti Marinara. I think the portion is just right, the seafood (really big mussels, squid and shrimp) were in generous portion and really fresh.

I’m rather picky in seafood spaghetti because the seafood tends to be overcooked but here at Silver Spoon it’s just perfect.

salmon pizza
Salmon Pizza

We also tried the Salmon Pizza. The pizza is spread with slices of salmon, onion and plenty of avocado. It was good but not my favorite. It tasted a little fishy. I’m a pepperoni kind of person hahaha.

However, it’s worth trying.

tiraamisu
Tiramisu

Lastly, we had our long awaited dessert – the very popular Tiramisu.

Oohhhh! It was amazing!

We’ve heard so much of Chef Ken’s awesome tiramisu that we just had to order it and we weren’t dissapointed at all. The dessert is not overly creamy and not too sweet. The top layer is very smooth and the bottom is well coated with alcohol (i’m not sure what kind but i suspect it’s either rum or brandy).

If you are going there, you gotta try it!

Even though the restaurant looks like a classy and expensive place to dine, the menu says other wise. The food here is good but the price is surprisingly affordable and appropriate. I’m definitely going for another visit. :)

Caeser Salad – RM18.00
Salmon Pizza – RM28.00
Spaghetti Marinara – RM29.00
Tiramisu – RM16.00
Watermelon Juice – RM8.00
Weihenstephan Weiss (500ml) – RM27.00

Total: RM138.60 (RM126.00 + RM12.60 service)

Chinaman Restaurant

There’s a new restaurant located at Kepong Industrial Park. It’s either on the same row with the Forrest Medical Centre or it’s just on the same junction, i forgot. Anyhow KIP is not a very big place, so it’s fairly easy to find.

By the way, i apologize in advance for the low quality photos. It was taken with the sister’s phone and we hadn’t got familiar with the camera settings yet T_T.

chinaman restaurant
Chinaman Restaurant

The restaurant serves China style cuisine with nice looking China style interior – complete with wooden and marble table with very red walls :P .

Here’s a picture of the entrance.

The seating area is quite cozy and very clean.

I think the staff are mostly from China judging by their Mandarin accent. Fortunately the boyfriend speaks Chinese because i’m absolutely useless in that department LOL.

They were a helpful and friendly bunch too.

peking roast duck
Peking Roast Duck

Ever since the boyfriend tried the Peking Roast Duck in Beijing he had been searching for the similar taste back here in Malaysia but most of the eateries here were pretty disappointing.

Coincidently Chinaman Restaurant has that Peking Roast Duck on the menu so we took the chance to have a try.

peking duck with chinese pancake
Pancake

We ordered half a duck and the order came in 2 style of cooking. The outer more fleshy part of the duck were marinated and roasted till the skin was crisp while the inner part where it’s mostly bones were salted and deep fried.

The roasted duck came with few pieces of Chinese pancakes. To eat, we have to wrap the duck, spring onions and sweet sauce with the pancakes.

peking salty duck
Salty Duck

The roasted duck was crispy and not bad but i’ll let the boyfriend be the judge since he had eaten the “real thing” before.

Quote from the boyfriend “Not bad but it’s not as tasty and fragrant as the original in Beijing. Comes close though”.

Definitely should be eaten while it’s hot.

I on the other hand loved the salted duck. It was super crispy and delicious. Like biting into those soft KFC bones but this is much more tastier haha.

squirrel fish
Squirrel Fish

Next came the deep fried Squirrel Fish. It’s not the actual squirrelfish you get from the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean but it’s just fish that is cut into diamond motif to look like a hedgehog then smothered in sweet-and-sour sauce.

Why it’s call Squirrel Fish beats me.

The fish however was rather tasty. I liked it because there’s no bones and it’s easy to eat not to mention the sauce was pretty great.

shredded porkk with garlic sauce
Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce

The Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce was equally good if not better. Other than pork, there’s enoki mushroom, beancurd, Chinese wood ear mushroom and a little bit of carrot.

This dish is light but satisfying. The garlic sauce aromatic and sweet. Thumbs up!

lettuce with sauce
Lettuce with Sauce

Last came the Shanghai Pau Fried Pork Bun which also was something the boyfriend had tried in Beijing and absolutely loved.

This version however was a tad disappointing. Not that it’s not tasty but it doesn’t taste the same as the original.

shanghai pau fried pork bun
Shanghai Pau with Fried Pork Bun

The bun taste similar to Xiao Long Pau but the skin is much more thick and the skin is slightly fried. The boyfriend told me that the original one is with very moist pork fillings, with soup pouring out if it just like Xiao Long Pao but here at Chinaman Restaurant there’s no soup so it’s a little dry.

Tasty but not great.

1/2 Peking Roast Duck – RM38.00
Squirrel Fish – RM32.00
Shanghai Pau Fried Pork Bun (8 pieces) – RM20.00
Lettuce with Sauce – RM10.00
Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce – RM18.00

Shui Yuan Vegetarian Court Restaurant

Yet another post with yee sang :P .

It was the first day of Chinese New Year so naturally we went vegan for that day. Not being a vege lover, it was pretty difficult for me to stick with vegetables and bean curd and what ever vegans eat and by the end of the day i was really craving for meat!

yee sang

So anyways, we went to Shui Yuan Court Vegetarian Restaurant for brunch. It’s located on the same row as Sai Kong Restaurant in Kepong.

We often go there when we were little to celebrate grandma’s birthday but haven’t been there since she’s gone. I don’t even remember how is the food there.

spring roll, fish balls, beancurd and fish
Appetizer

The place was really packed on chor yat (first day of CNY), we had to wait quite long for a table. Finally we got a table up front but the restaurant is not spacious so people kept bumping into our chairs!

The service was so bad that i vowed never to return.

First nobody attended to us. The staff was busy with other customers. When finally one of the staff came over to place order, she was very impatient and rude. She kept pushing us to order the CNY set and seemed very frustrated when we ask about the dishes in the menu.

Mom relented and ordered one of the CNY set. The set is inclusive of yee sang, 1 appetizer, 6 main vegetarian dishes and a dessert.

braised pork knuckle

The food was just so-so and there were no vegetables, almost all were beancurd and doughs.

The vegetarian shark fin was the worst being too salty that nobody wanted second helpings.

By the time we managed to finish the 3rd dish, we were so jelak. I actually felt nauseated because of all the dough.

mushroom with fatt choy

The best dish of the day must be the stir-fry mushroom with fatt choy.

We didn’t even manage to eat the last dish which was the glutinous rice because we felt so full. In the end we ta pao it back for dinner.

As for the dessert, we didn’t get any. The staff ran out of ice and didn’t other to tell us so we waited almost more than 1/2 hour for it and finally we left without it!

Everything cost arounf RM350++ which to me is rather pricey for food in this standard. Won’t return again (eventhough sis swears that their food is usually good during non-festive days).

Blockhouse Eastern & Western Dining

A very belated Christmas and a Happy New Year to all! The whole week before Xmas was spent cleaning. I’m surprised at the amount of dust and rubbish i throw away every end of the year. LOL.

Well i have a few food post but unfortunately it’s without photos. It’s a nuisance not having a camera phone around when you need it. But i will post the review nevertheless with “borrowed” photos from other blogs again. Sorry >.<

Ok, maybe not today. Today i have one really outdated review that’s been seating on my desktop for ages now.

salad
Salas

When we are really in a lazy mood we often venture the opposite shops from the condo. There are plenty of eatery nearby to satisfy the hunger although not the taste. And when we have a sudden crave for western food like chicken chop, it seems there are plenty of run-of-the-mill western restaurant nearby.

watermelon juice
Watermelon juice

One of them is the corner shop named Blockhouse Eastern & Western Dining restaurant. I was skeptical since i had really a bad case of food poisoning from similar style restaurant elsewhere.

But seeing the place is always full of patrons, we went in and sat down.

sausage
Sausage

The place is dimly lit and quite comfortable and the service fast.

The food however, wasn’t really good.

special chicken chop
Chicken chop

The chicken chop with cheese and the fried crab claw was alright but mediocre. I could taste the metal taste of the knife used to cut the salad appetizer. The sausage was ok but needs to be cooked longer.

The presentation wasn’t really appetizing either.

For such prices i could easily get better food elsewhere. But as i was saying, we were in a lazy mood :P .

Fried Crab Claw – RM6.80
Special Chicken Chop – RM15.80
Blockhouse Sausage and Mash Potato – RM16.90
Watermelon Juice – RM8.00
