Mr. Siew Bao is available at the Lot 10 Hutong Gourmet Heritage Village (the food court). Also at Sunway Pyramid and now in Plaza Mont Kiara as well. The canary yellow themed outlet selling fresh pastry and treats is hard to miss.

Mr Siew Bao is famous for (yes you’ve got that right!) siew bao which the recipe originates from the famous Kee Mei Siew Pao from Seremban. If you have tried the original Seremban siew bao then you would know how good this is.

Crispy on the outside and totally delicious!

Also available are other delicacies like egg tarts, lou poh peng, yam cakes and winter melon biscuits.

Koryo-Won Korean BBQ Restaurant Revisited

We were back at Koryo-Won Korean Smoke BB Restaurant during the 7th day of CNY. I remember being quite happy with the service and food from my first visit at Koryo-Won.

That time i was there with the boyfriend for my birthday, this time around it was with the family for lunch. Its dad’s first time having Korean food :) .

Ddukboggi

We began with the spicy Ddukboggi (rice cake with noodle) as appetizer. It was good and slightly spicy as i remembered. Mom loved this dish because of the sweet and sour kimchi.

We also ordered the smoke BBQ set. One bbq rib-eye set and another bbq mix chicken and squid set because dad don’t take beef too well.

Each sets came with 12 side dishes which are refillable but only once. If you would like to have a second refill you would have to pay for it.

The beef was yummy and very tender. The spring onion and onion gives it the sweetness that tasted so good.

The chicken and squid was alright too. Nothing too special but do eat it once it’s done, the squid is really hard to chew once it’s overcooked too long on the bbq platter.

Once again i can’t forgo the Bulgogi Jung Sik. It’s a must have for me at Korean restaurants.

The Bulgogi Jung Sik here is awesome! Very tasty and sweet. The broth is thick and the beef comes in abundance. Absolutely delicious.

Then came the seafood hotpot. It didn’t look like much but the container was shaped like a wok so the center is quite deep. Don’t be fooled by the appearance, the portion is quite big and it’s a lot to eat! LOL.

The soup was super sweet and thick. There’s quite a lot of ingredients in there. Fish, prawn, enoki, tauhu, crab, squid and etc. Not bad at all.

After the hotpot, sis’ bf ordered more stuff. He have a really big appetite :P

We had 2 more BBQ sets, the ox tongue and the marinated sirloin.

I had a hard time eating the bbq ox tongue. It was hard and too chewy in texture. The sirloin wasn’t really as good as the first time i had it either. It was cut a tad too thick.

The bill came to around RM500++. Pricey eh?

Snowflake @ Pavilion

I first heard about Snowflake from facebook. I saw friends posting photos of mouth watering desserts on their photo album and i wondered where is this new outlet. They told me it’s in Pavilion and i scratched my head because i’ve been to Pavilion so many times but i’ve never bumped into this shop before.

It was my lucky day when Pipu suggested we head on to Pavilion for the popular Taiwanese dessert after a hot steamboat session at Xiao Fei Yang.

In turns out that Snowflake is fairly easy to locate. It’s on level 4 directly opposite the Padini Concept Store – it figures because i rarely go to Padini LOL.

The outlet’s design is simple yet modern. They don’t have alot of tables so you’ll have to wait your turn because the place is rather streaming with customers most of the time.

Beeping UFO

Snowflake also have a very cute and unique system for placing order. It’s definitely the first i’ve seen.

They have a gadget called the “Beeping UFO” which is given to you (with the corresponding table number of course) when you order at the counter. The device will light up and vibrate to indicate that your order is ready to be picked up at the counter. Which is what the UFO tagline “This allow you to chillout while we make your order” is all about.

Cute, no?

tau fu fa with peanut soup
Tau Fu Fa with Peanut Soup

We ordered 3 bowls of different dessert to share. It’s a good idea seeing the bowl was rather big and the portion generous.

We didn’t order their best seller “Grass Jelly with Iced Grass Jelly and Taro balls”. I have no idea because i wasn’t paying attention. LOL.

We ordered the Tau Fu Fa with peanut soup which was just alright. It was served warm. I had my doubts but surprisingly tau fu fa paired with peanut soup wasn’t bad at all although the tau fu fa wasn’t very smooth.

Red Bean with Black Pearl and Taro

My fav was the Red Bean with Black Pearls. There ice is thinly shaved and it came with a small cup of creamer to add flavor. There’s 2 pieces of Taro balls (yam) too which was splendid. the taro is exceptionally delicious, very soft and sweet while the dessert on the whole was yummy and refreshing.

Two thumbs up!

Green Bean with Black Pearl and Barley

Another dessert we tried was the Green Bean with Black Pearl and Barley. It was good too and the green bean was really soft. Although not as yummy as the red bean option, this dessert is rather nice. Just add the creamer if you find it a tad too dry.

For RM5++ a bowl it was worth it.

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme came to Malaysia this year. It was a few months back i think and everyone was extremely excited. This particular doughnut franchise is very popular it seems, the only chance to get a taste is when you’re travelling overseas – nearest in Indonesia or Philippine.

Yeah, i know i’m a little outdated for i don’t go to Bukit Bintang area too often and the only Krispy Kreme outlet is at Berjaya Times Square. However, friends and family had already tried the doughnuts and surprise, surprise, they didn’t like it at all. I recall a lot of people was raving about how delicious the doughnuts were before it came to Malaysia.

Cappuccino Kreme and Hershey’s Dark Chocolate

Oh well, last weekend we were at Jalan Imbi for some business so we decided to try Krispy Kreme for ourselves. We sat down with the Cappuccino Kreme and Hershey’s Dark Chocolate on the tray and took a bite.

Both of us didn’t like it. After the first bite we were reluctant to finish the doughnuts. The dough was rough and a little dry while the frosting on top was so darn sweet it almost caused me toothache :( . The cappuccino cream inside was too sweet too. As for the pieces of dark chocolate on top of Hershey’s Dark Chocolate flavor didn’t exactly go well with the doughnut. It was again too sweet and weird. Fortunately we had enough sense not to buy a whole dozen.

Has Krispy Kreme gone wrong or is it just the Malaysian franchise? I bet it’s the later.

Shikiya Restaurant

Mr. Bf’s hard disk is dying soon. It’s making weird noises every time the PC is on. I guess it’s time for a new one. So, we drove to Low Yat Plaza to buy a hard disk and also to have lunch.

I really don’t fancy going to Low Yat Plaza because 1) Mr. Bf spends too much time gawking at the gadgets that he really doesn’t need and 2) there’s not much variety of food to choose from when i get hungry.

shikiya
Shikiya Restaurant

It’s really not a good idea but we were super thirsty and we saw the big “Free Refill” sign smacked on the Shikiya Restaurant’s signboard. Haha.

Thank god that i had my lunch at home already so didn’t order anything except for a Chawan Mushi. The food weren’t any good at all. :(

chicken in bread crimb set
Bento set

Boasting a Thai and Japanese fusion, the restaurant offers a variety of dishes such as sushi sets, Thai style fried rice in bento sets and others. To me the price is a bit pricey. A bento set cost about RM20.00++ where else i could get a yummy set with more sidelines in a authentic Japanese restaurant at the same price.

miso soup

To sum things up, the Fried Rice with Chicken in Bread crumb set was just a bland tasting fried rice with plain chicken nuggets. The nuggets weren’t even warm when served.

chawan mushi
Chawan Mushi

The Chawan Mushi wasn’t great too. There’s nothing much in it except for a tiny piece of carrot and i think mushroom. The steamed egg wasn’t really smooth too.

By the way, the ice lemon tea sucks. No refill for me.

There are many visitors to the restaurant – being one of the halal restaurant in Low Yat Plaza. However, let’s just say it’s not my cup of tea.

Fried Rice with Chicken in Bread – RM23.80
Chawan Mushi – RM3.90
Soft Drink (Ice lemon tea) x 2 – RM5.80

Total: RM36.85 (RM33.50 + RM3.35 service)
