What makes Chan Sow Lin Steamed Fish Head so sought after among Klang Valley people?

Perhaps someone once ventured into Chan Sow Lin road after a trying day at work and decided to chance upon the fish head shop with the big red billboard right at the corner of the road and with a stroke of luck had the finest fish head he have had in a while. He told his colleague the next day who then told his neighbor who told her mother who… well the rest is history.

Well, perhaps that’s what really happened. Who knows?
 

Fast forward today, Chan Sow Lin Steamed Fish Head is as popular as ever with original branches opening all around and of course restaurants that claim to be original sprouting like mushrooms. It’s really impossible to determine their authenticity but what matter the most is the quality of the food.

As a matter of fact, there is a considerably new restaurant (Hometown Steamed Fish Head Restaurant) in Bandar Menjalara serving Chan Sow Lin Steamed Fish Head.
 

The service was superb but i wish i had the same comment about the food.

While the food was not bad, it wasn’t spectacular.

The fish head with thick sauce we ordered was alright but forgettable. The fish head was really big and there’s plenty to go around and without a doubt it was fresh and smooth. However, the sauce slightly sour and spicy was rather too thick and only touches mediocre.
 

Another 2 dishes that we sampled are the Steamed Tofu with Soya Sauce and the Four Heavenly King. While the tofu was nicely done the vegetable dish was a letdown. No doubt it was laden with marvelous petai beans but being far too soggy, it lost the robust and fragrant taste that it was supposed to be.
