Oh when was the last time we had Korean food? I think it was exactly one year ago for the same special occasion (Pipu’s birthday) last year! LOL!
This year we lunched at Han Woo Ri Korean BBQ Restaurant for some good old Korean BBQ. Yums!
Han Woo Ri is one among the many Korean eateries at the Korean Village in One Ampang Avenue. It has been around for ages with a sister branch in USJ Taipan but the shop vicinity looked fairly new (perhaps it was updated sometime in between).
The restaurant is bright, clean and spacious plus most of the employees are fluent in English so placing orders is a breeze. Service is excellent and fast, another plus point for the restaurant.
First came the banchan (dainty side dishes) which i think was just average. While it was good, i regret that some of my favorite banchan dishes aren’t available here. Also my all time favorite baby anchovies were just mediocre here. However, it’s the first time i had sweet potato as banchan and it was delicious.
One of the best Kimchi Jjie Gye i’ve had is here at Han Woo Ri. The broth is very authentic and was just excellent; thick and absolutely flavorful. The sourness in combination with a tad of spiciness is very appetizing. The ingredients were in generous portion too.
I’ve never seen a larger portion of Bibimbap before. The portion was really impressive (enough for 2 persons).
Normally i would stay away from Bibimbap if i could because i’m not a fan of rice and in most Korean Restaurant i’ve been too, the Bibimbap is always too dry and taste bland. Here however, the ingredients were plenty – it even comes with a bowl of delicious soup. After mixing up the ingredients, the rice was moist and not bad at all.
As for the pork BBQ, it was absolutely superb!
We ordered 2 types of BBQ, one the Pork Belly BBQ and the other the Marinated Pork BBQ.
The pork belly was simply delicious. It was tender and juicy, the meat is obviously fresh. I almost drooled when the tantalizing smell of the BBQ meat hit my nostril.
While the pork belly was heavenly, i think the marinated pork was even better. The thin strips of pork were drenched in red marinate and when placed on the BBQ platter the smell that permeated the air was so, so tempting.
We made a mistake of over-grilling some of the strips so some of them had burnt corners. But as it turned out they were equally delicious; very piquant, kind of taste like pork jerky LOL.
Definitely the best Korean BBQ session i’ve had in ages.
As with the banchan, the lettuce is refillable which we did (asked for a refill).
The BBQ meats were awesome paired with fresh lettuce and awesome sauces and condiments.
There is no doubt that i will re-visit this shop again when the next Korean food craving hits me. The food here is great, service excellent, ambiance comfortable and price is affordable.
Han Woo Ri also earned a brownie point for their ventilation. While most Korean Restaurant have this ventilation vents that hangs from the ceiling to suck up the smoke from the BBQ platter, Han Woo Ri has a built-in ventilation on the BBQ platter which is more efficient.
