Here is an interesting place to eat. The boyfriend had mentioned about it many a times; it’s a place he often visits during his childhood years in Sitiawan, Perak. Unfortunately, the last time we were here we did not have the time to drop by for a bowl of noodle as it operates only from morning till noon.
This time around we made time.
This quaint stall sits under a big tree providing shade against the hot sun. Being a little run down doesn’t deter customers from supporting this local business. The limited tables were occupied and there weren’t shortage of customer when we left.
The boyfriend affectionately recalls dropping by this hole-in-a-wall eatery which has been around since almost 20 years ago. It’s a family business, now run by the son.
A note of warning though for first time visitors, this place is infested with flies! Like seriously infested. There are flies everywhere; i have not seen so many flies in my entire live! As you eat you have to constantly wave your hands frantically in order to shoo the flies away from your food.
But if you could look pass the menacing flies, you have to sit down and experience the home made Foo Chow style Loh Mee.
Personally i’m not a fan of Loh Mee; not even the KL version of it. I do not normally order this style of noodle when i’m at the noodle stalls but the boyfriend is a true Loh Mee eater and i’m happy to indulge him.
The Foo Chow style Loh Mee took me completely in surprise because it’s really different from the ones we get in KL. The gravy is starchy and thicker and the there were plenty of ingredients such as dried cuttlefish, bamboo shoots and dried lily bulbs. It taste a little bland but the noodles were extremely smooth and springy (they use Kampua noodles).
The boyfriend once told me that the first time he tasted KL Loh Mee he wasn’t used to it because he had been eating Foo Chow Loh Mee all his life. LOL.
Being bland aside, i find the bamboo shoots made the Loh Mee taste slightly fishy. But once, you add the Kampung Koh chili sauce to it, it was delicious! To add to the taste, you could always try adding the pickled garlic in vinegar provided in separate jars on the table. Definitely appetizing!
This is a whole new experience to me
.
Oh and guess what? 2 bowls of Loh Mee and 2 glasses of drinks only cost us around RM 7.00! Rox!
