Pipu had recommended this place for our small new year reunion. Well, she’s officially our group’s food hunter now. Haha.
She’s been to Xiao Fei Yang (Small Fat Goat) restaurant on her birthday and according to her it is something worth trying.
Xiao Fei Yang offer’s Mongolian style steamboat which differs from the normal steamboat in the soup/broth base. Whereby normal steamboat offers herbal chicken broth and tom yam broth, Xiao Fei Yang offers Herbal Chicken Soup and Peppercorn Seed Soup (Mah Lat = Super Spicy).
For those who loves spicy food, the peppercorn seed soup is definitely your choice. It’s quite spicy but i suspect they toned it down to accommodate our local flavor. Otherwise, it’s really flavorful and good.
One thing i must mention about this restaurant is the cleanliness and service. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They speak Mandarin which i’m useless is but fortunately i’m the only banana in the group.
The shop is super clean and hygienic – the cutlery (inclusive of bowls and plates) are all sent to a disinfection centre where they are washed and sterilized. Don’t believe it? Just look at the photo i took. The cutlery are still in sealed plastics!
Not so good for the environment though…
The pot of broth is quite a sight especially the spicy section where it’s really red with mixtures of dried chilies, garlic and pepper seed.
Place on the table is 3 types of sauces - chilli, fermented bean curd and also what i think is fermented black been paste. I definitely prefer the black bean paste.
It’s pretty difficult to make up our mind on the order because the restaurant have extensive list of ingredients on the list which includes their signature goat meat.
Pipu then swap out her trusty camera phone and showed the staff the photos she had taken from her last visit! LOL. It was so funny but we did manage to get what we wanted.
We ordered a total of 12 types of steamboat ingredients such as fishball, mushroom and veges.
Also if you are there you have to order their slice meat. We chose pork and their signature goat’s meat.
Both meat is tender and delicious. I can’t get enough of the goat’s meat, it was very tasty.
The bill came up to RM138++ for the 6 of us. I find it rather affordable and reasonable for their fresh ingredients. Definitely will visit again, maybe during CNY with the family.
