The Steamboat, Ketam Village

Filed Under (Chinese Cuisine, Food in Desa Park City, Food in Kuala Lumpur, Food in Malaysia, Halal) by kuanfoodfetish on 28-05-2009

The only halal steamboat i know in town. The Steamboat, Ketam Village.

I’ve actually read quite positive online reviews about this steamboat restaurant. Each time i passed by the branch in Ikano i would be tempted to go in, the sweet steamboat aroma cajoling. But i have my reservations – it is a halal steamboat after all… and you see i love pork haha!

Anyways, we were at Petsmore in Desa Park City coz i was looking for a conditioner for Kobe’s super sensitive coat. It just stopped raining and was breezy and cold – a very pleasant change from the super hot weather we get almost everyday now.

Nice weather warrant a nice dinner right? :) Right!

Dinner with a view

The view at The Steamboat, Ketam Village in Desa Park City is really great. Overlooking the lake (sorry the lake is not visible in this photo) and the park where kids and adults are flying kites and remote planes, people bringing their dogs for a stroll, it’s a very relaxing environment. With a view like this, we of course had chosen to be seated outdoors.

The restaurant was really crowded. Although we were there early, almost all the tables were already occupied if not reserved. One thing for sure is the staff were in a frenzy, very busy running here and there.

I didn’t feel comfortable at all with all the running about. The staff were so busy they even forgotten to serve us the green chili. Ok, i didn’t know about that until i read in blogs that they have a selection of chili and dips. They didn’t give us any except for the normal red chili paste :( .

For the 2 of us, we had placed order for the Double Combo Value Set with additional golden mushroom (my fav!) and sliced beef. I had the clear soup while Mr. Bf had the tom yam soup so we could compare.

The ingredient was fresh and the soup wasn’t bad although not really great. Pretty decent for a halal steamboat.

It’s good that we both had our personal steamboat pot so we could enjoy our own style of steamboat. But for me, it was just so, so. Considering that the dinner cost RM52.35, we could have had better at any of the Bandar Menjalara steamboat restaurant for below RM30.

I think the price went up compared to last year. I viewed a blog post which was written on Oct 2008, the Double Combo Value Set was priced at RM29.80 while ours was at RM32.80!

So, food wise it was alright, price wise above average but environment wise great.

Double Combo Value Set – RM32.80
Golden Mushroom – RM3.90
Sliced Beef – RM6.90
Chinese Tea (refill) – RM1.20
Soya Bean – RM2.80

Total: RM52.35 (RM47.60 + RM4.76 service)

My Honeymoon Dessert

Filed Under (Chinese Cuisine, Food in Malaysia, Food in Petaling Jaya, Food in Selangor) by kuanfoodfetish on 25-05-2009

My Honeymoon is heaven for all who loves dessert, especially girls. Girls can’t seems to get enough of desserts don’t they? Haha. And with the wide list of selection (from tong sui – sweet soup to sweet pancakes/custard) it’s something i wouldn’t miss.

I wonder though is this outlet a franchise from the Hong Kong dessert shop with similar name? Will find out more in the future.

I adore the interior. The wall paper are of books so the shop looks like a very cozy and comfortable library. But once you step into the shop, you’ll noticed that everything in the shop bears My Honeymoon logo. The napkin, cutlery and even the chairs spots a logo. They really are serious about branding :P .

We ordered the Mango in Purple Rice and Water Chestnut with Black Soup and Sago. It was difficult making decision on what to order since the selection is so many. So we just simply picked.

purple rice
Purple Soup

The purple soup is actually black glutinous rice. This dessert comes with separate santan (coconut milk) for those who would like to have it together with the soup.

Santan – coconut milk ~ yummy!

I think it’s not bad even though it was not the best i had. Mom makes better black glutinous rice soup at home LOL. However i liked it because it was light and not too sweet. The mango? Delicious!.

Water Chestnut + Sago

The Water Chestnut dessert was good. I liked it alot especially the pearl sago that comes with it. The sago i had before this is soft and chewy but the sago in this dessert had a different texture. It’s almost crunchy and i could practically hear the “crunch, crunch” sound when i bite on the pearl. Cool! Very refreshing too.

I told you the My Honeymoon brand is everywhere haha!

The place is mostly full most of the time. But service is efficient. The food? It’s quite alright but a bit pricey for desserts.

Mango in Purple Rice – RM9.00
Water Chestnut with Black Soup – RM6.00

Total: RM16.50 (RM15.00 + RM1.50 service)

Luck Kee Steamboat Restaurant

Filed Under (Chinese Cuisine, Food in Kuala Lumpur, Food in Malaysia, Happy Garden, Non Halal) by kuanfoodfetish on 18-05-2009

I swear i had no idea it’s Pulau Ketam Seafood, else i would have not had our meal there (i’m a supporter of the Pulau Ketam dogs rescue mission). I only found out when i got the bill and on the receipt it’s clearly stated that the seafood is from Pulau Ketam :S.

But let’s be fair. I guess the abandoning dogs case in Pulau Ketam is not entirely the residence fault and the food at Luck Kee Steamboat is good. The seafood is fresh and most important most of the fish balls or meat balls are homemade. It really makes a big difference.

Steamboat – seafood

They have an impressive list of add-ons for the steamboat on the menu to choose from. We picked the golden mushroom, meat balls and sotong balls among other stuffs that i couldn’t remember LOL. But i do remember that we called the pork vein balls (or something like that) and all of us didn’t particularly fancy it because the ginger taste was too strong.

The ingredients in Luck Kee Steamboat is very clean. So another thumbs up! I recall going to a steamboat restaurant and the needle mushroom they gave us was so dirty and gross. You can see black spots everywhere – obviously have not been washed properly.Yuck!

braised mee hoon

Besides steamboat there are other good tasting dishes that you could try. For instance the braised pork mee hoon was superb. A good starter for hungry stomach while waiting for the steamboat soup to boil. :)

escargot
Escargot

Then there is the escargot which my sis adores. I’m not a fan of snails but i had to admit that this is yummy, especially the sauce. Taste great with the man tau (bread) that came later too.

sweet sour crab
Sweet Sour Crab

The sweet and sour crab was big and very meaty. Not the best i had but it’s pretty good. 2 kg cost about RM106.00 which is quite reasonable i think.

Overall, the food at Luck Kee Steamboat i good, fresh and most important clean. The service superb. The owner was friendly and recommends the best foods. Price ok – RM233.00 for the 7 of us. Not bad right?

Get Paid To Hack

Filed Under (Moolah Reviews, Others) by kuanfoodfetish on 15-05-2009

I remember i once read on a news about a youngster getting into serious trouble with the authority for hacking illegally into systems. It’s such a waste of talent. I mean it takes a genius to be able to break into IT Security right? Usually, it’s these ‘geniuses’ who’s just having fun without any intention to harm. On the other hand, if the network infrastructure and security are really so well designed then nobody could tap into it either.

Now, there is a golden opportunity for hackers to contribute to the society by doing Ethical Hacking instead of breaking the law. EC-Council is now offering the chance for fellow hackers a certification and training to combine their natural talent on hacking with knowledge of security fundamental and the role of hacking in IT security. Those who participate learns about the hacking technique such as penetration testing, computer forensics, disaster recovery, secure programming and many more.

Being a Certified Ethical Hacker is a really cool thing to be especially for guys. I know for my boyfriend this would be a dream come true. I say why not sign up with EC-Council? You will be a hero!
