This is my 3rd visit to Vietnam Kitchen, 1 Utama, the first being 2 years ago. I’ve always enjoyed the food here. It’s about time we went there for another meal.

First, we ordered drinks. I wanted to have the water chestnut drink but the drink is quite popular among patrons and they had run out of it. Also quite popular, the 6 Treasure drink is a good replacement. It’s refreshing and rich with flavor without being too sweet. I love to munch on the longan, lotus and jelly shreds in it.

The Special Vietnamese Onion Cake served as a nice appetizer. Only the size of a palm, it actually tasted like spring rolls but with the difference of the onion cake skin on the outside. Quite yummy :) .

This time around Vietnam Kitchen offers a few selection of set meals with price ranging from RM33.90 (2 – 3 person). A set for 2 – 3 person includes 4 dishes namely the sweet and sour chicken, pork ribs in caramel, bean sprouts with bonito flakes and tauhu in mushroom gravy.

The pork ribs in caramel tasted weird on the first nibble but after a few mouthful i find it delightfully delicious. Although the gravy has some caramel in it, the caramel is not too overpowering nor is it too sweet. It only adds to the taste.

I love the bean sprout (taugeh) just because of the bonito flakes! LOL.

See the bonito flakes?

The tauhu was equally good. The minced mushroom gravy is the best.

Set A (2-3 pax) – RM33.90
Rice x 2 – RM3.00
Special Onion Cake – RM6.90
6 TReasure Drink – RM5.90
Watermelon Juice – RM5.50
Total: RM63.50 (RM55.20 + RM5.52=service + RM2.76=tax)

Restoran Malaysia, Nyok Lan Kajang Satay

Been a long time since i went to Kajang for satay. So, for Pipu’s birthday, i suggested we go all the way to Kajang for few sticks of satay because Kajang is most famous for satay and because i’m a cheapskate.

Restaurant Malaysia, Nyok Lan Kajang Satay

We dropped by Nyok Lan Kajang Satay (corner shop) which is a Chinese owned stall operating in Restoran Malaysia. I’ve been told that the place is usually packed with people most of the time.

The shop offer few variety of satay namely chicken, fish, mutton and beef. Also most patrons will also order some ketupat to side. Since Huey don’t eat beef we ordered 30 chicken satay and 10 mutton satay (chicken – RM0.60 each and mutton – RM0.90 each).

The satay comes with peanut sauce mix with sambal which tasted good as always.

All of us have mix feelings towards the satay here. Mr. Bf and i thought that the mutton was really good. None of the strong mutton taste and it’s really tender to chew. However, we thought the chicken satay is just so-so.

For me i think i prefer if the satay is a little bit charred because it adds to the taste. As for Mr. Bf, he doesn’t like anything without bits of fats LOL. Since Kajang satay is famous for it’s lean meat, i don’t think he will ever like Kajang satay *wakaka!

To summarize, the satay is not too bad. Mutton satay is recommended :) . And you should be warned that cleanliness is not top priority at this place so if you’re not so keen on oily tables, this is not a place for you.

U Lucky Seafood Restaurant

Updates: Apparently (according to a reader), this U Lucky Restaurant is a sister company to the Lucky Restaurant in Lukut. It’s a family business or something. My bad just in case it’s true but that doesn’t alter my opinion about the bun :P .

Mr. Bf brought back a Curry Chicken Bun from Seremban a while back. If you didn’t know, the bun is popular and a must eat over there.

Curry Chicken Bun

There are a lot of restaurant that offer this dish but one of the more popular restaurant is the Lucky Seafood Restaurant located at Lukut, Port Dickson (famous for it’s Curry King Bun/Lucky King Bun). Unfortunately, i think Mr. Bf found his way to the wrong restaurant named U Lucky Restaurant at Kemayan Square instead.  The name is kind of pirated right? *wakaka!

Cut the bun

Anyways the Curry Chicken Bun cost RM28.00 at this particular restaurant and is actually a huge bun with curry chicken inside of it. The curry chicken is wrapped in aluminum foil and then another layer of plastic before covered with the bun dough. The whole combination is then baked together in oven.

The huge bun is suitable for 3-4 person.

You gotta eat it while it’s hot alright. Cut the bun and tear it open. There are potatoes and chicken with the curry. The best way to eat it is to dip the bun into the curry and eat it.

Although i think curry and bread or bun is a good combination (i used to dip my bread in mom’s curry all the time *yummy!), it’s nothing special. Maybe it’s this particular restaurant but i find that the curry is nothing special. Too high expectation gua…

Food or Flat Belly?

Filed Under (Health, Moolah Reviews) by kuanfoodfetish on 19-11-2008

You know what foreign friends like the most about this country? Of all things (people, landscape, culture) it’s food. They totally loved it that there is all kind of food available here 24 hours 7. Even after midnight there are food hawkers (Mamak Stalls) everywhere. If you there’s a country you could name a food haven it’s definitely here.

Recently when i had lunch with one of my foreign friend, i think i spot a tell-tale sign of a love handle! I think her over-indulgence on Malaysian food is starting to show. Haha. Hence, this post is dedicated to Marissa and people who can’t get enough of the scrumptious food here.

Dear Marissa,

This might sound a tad mean but I think you need a diet! I can see a bump peeking through your T-shirt girl. I bet Pete is enjoying the extra pillow on your tummy. Haha! :P

But seriously don’t get too overboard or you’ll have a difficult time losing the fat. I’m speaking from experience here. I’ve tried so many different ways of losing weight especially to lose the fat belly but it’s pretty much useless. I’d give anything to fit into my old dress. Thank god it’s in control now that i manage what i eat.

Have you heard of the Flat Belly Diet? I’ve not tried it but it sounds great. Lose up to 15 pounds in 32 days with no exercise required. Sounds awesome huh? Well, this diet combines a nutrition plan with expert tips and advises to help you eliminate the fats. This means you don’t have to stop eating your favorite meal but the program will help you identify healthy fats to consume.
Fbd
So how about it? At least check out the website for more information ok?
Love,
Your Friend
XOXOXO

Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant

daorae
Daorae

Been craving for Korean food for quite sometime and thanks to Pipu who recommended this particular Korean restaurant. Ok, actually i think she highly recommended this restaurant just because Rain (the supposedly Korean hunk) had dine there before.

above khalifah bistro
Look above

After looking at the many posters of Rain plastered in the restaurant i half expected that the eatery will be packed with screaming school girls LOL. But surprisingly the place was full sometime after 7.30pm, mostly with families.

Up up up

Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant, Kota Damansara branch is located on the third floor of the building. It’s actually above the Khalifah Bistro. If you’re not familiar with the area and if not for the neon marque sign, most probably you’ll miss the restaurant.

seat
Quite spacious right?

Oh yeah, don’t be put off by the small and old elevator to the 3rd floor alright? The restaurant is actually quite spacious and well maintained.

Ala Traditional style

The host would most probably recommend you to try the BBQ set which you can actually bbq at your table using charcoal (Mr. Bf seemed quite interested with the extendable air vacuum thingy), but after having Kajang satay the other day we decided it was too heaty. We ordered the small hotpot set instead.

kimchi jeon gol
Kimchi Jeon Gol

The Kimchi Jeon Gol portion was huge! We ordered the small set which i think turned out well enough for 3/4 person! It’s crazy!

side dish
10 side dishes!

Kimchi Jeon Gol is something like curry instant noodle but less spicy and more sour since the soup base is made of kimchi. There are lotsa big pieces of tauhu pork. As usual with Korean food, the set also comes with 10 side dishes, all i loved especially the kimchi and the jellyfish. We even received a complimentary side dish (Korean steam egg) from the host. I was quite happy then because i’m all for free stuffs *wakaka!

Complimentary Steamed Egg

You know we had no idea that the Kimchi Jeon Gol set came with noodles. I don’t recall it was on the menu. If we knew then we would not have ordered additional rice and another type of noodle (Kimchi Mari Goks).

kimchi mari goks
Kimchi Mari Goks – Cold Soba Noodle

But it turned out for the best because i loved the Kimchi Mari Goks. It’s cold soba noodle with kimchi, seeweed, cucumber and sesame. I heart most dishes with sesame. It makes everything more aromatic, don’t you think? And the portion is huge too. It’s perfect for 2 person sharing.

soba
Brrrrr…..

Overall it’s quite satisfying. Service excellent and fast. Price is reasonable considering the extremely large portion. Remember, Kimchi Jeon Gol could feed 4 person and the Kimchi Mari Goks could well feed 2 person. Next time, will bring more people to share the food :) .

Kimchi Jeon Gol (Small) – RM50.00
Kimchi Mari Goks – RM16.00
Rice x 2 – RM10.00

Total: RM83.60 (RM76.00 + RM3.80 = tax + RM7.60 = service)
