What i love most about Hari Raya in Malaysia is the glorious food that is associated with it. Even before Raya during Puasa (fasting), the Malays had already started selling kuihs and rendangs and all sorts of delicious food.

While the Malays are getting slimmer by fasting, my waist is getting thicker due to constant Malay food binging. *Arrrgggggghhhh!!! I can’t help it. My brain says no but my nose seems to have a mind of its own. The aroma of Malay food is too much for me to handle.

buka puasa
Malay food galore

Along Jalan Kuching, before the intersection to Jalan Kepong; right in front of the old flats, many many stalls are set up everyday few hours before buka puasa (fasting ends). The whole street will be occupied by hawkers selling Malay kuihs, nasi lemak, asam laksa, murtabak, rendang and all sorts of Malay food.

We bought these for RM10.

It’s called murtabak bajet because it’s really made from a tiny bajet. Smaller than the normal murtabak.

That’s a pretty good deal right? However, the aroma is better than the taste. But i’ll give it a benefit of a doubt because by the time we got home the food was already cold.

Next week, rendang and ayam masak merah!
