Charms Cafe is one of my favorite outlet for Asian delicacies in I Utama. First because of it’s pretty interior of colorful lamps, flowery wall murals and the big Indian style swing. It looks very Bohemian to me.

Second because of it’s good fusion of East and West food. Each time i past by this cafe, the fragrant and aroma doesn’t fails to tempt me.

I must admit that the nice food presentation is also quite an attraction.

Charms have the best ginger milk tea (Teh Halia) ever. It’s milky and aromatic. Not overly sweet which is a bonus. I really have a phobia ordering “lai char” (milk tea) anywhere because no one seems to under stand what is “kurang manis” (less sweet)!

Another reason i love this place is because it offers local dishes with a twist. Instead of normal Asian cuisine, some of the dishes on the menu are prepared differently from the norm. The last time we were here we had the Fried Cantonese Mee which was superb. This time we had the Fried Chee Cheong Fun. It taste a little like Fried Kuey Tiaw Mee but with less oil and it’s not as aromatic. But doesn’t meant that it’s less tasty or less enjoyable. The chee cheong fun being soft and smooth kind of balance out the taste. Very nice.

The Dry Pan Mee is equally good. Not spectacular but still good. Instead of the normal flat noodle, they used string shaped noodle. The dish also comes with soup on the side.

My favorite though is the Fried Tau Foo Pok. Ok, i just realized that we ordered everything fried LOL. Anyways, the tau foo pok is fried together with salty eggs among other ingredients making it crispy, sweet and little salty at the same time. This is a must try.

Fried Chee Cheong Fun – RM8.90

Cozy House

I had no idea Ampang Park is so crowded even on weekends when most offices nearby are closed for the second half of the day. Maybe because Raya is coming soon. I see that the many (many is an understatement) shops selling Malay clothes are doing well.

We happened to be there to pick up the oil painting. We finally got it framed. *happy! Besides many eatery shops, we he found a shop that charge a reasonable price for framing. It only cost RM180 here while other shops are charging RM300 aprox. That’s like RM100++ difference!

Anyways, by the time we picked up the painting it was already dinner time. It was either Cozy Corner or Cozy House for dinner. I picked Cozy House because i visited Cozy Corner before. It’s funny because i read in some blogs/forum that Cozy House and Cozy Corner is actually the same. That they had replaced the word “Corner” with “House”. It’s not true at all. It’s 2 separate restaurants. I guess it’s confusing since it’s at the same row of shops.

While Cozy Corner is a more classy restaurant with romantic ambiance, serving Western and local food, Cozy House is a more of a common day eatery with less flare (i heard it’s newly renovated) serving mostly local food.

Cozy House have pretty decent beef curry. The beef is quite tender and not musky at all. Not bad.

Huge Chicken Chop

The Chicken Chop was alright too.

I have no idea how people can finish the whole peace of chicken chop. It’s so huge regardless of which restaurant or shop. Half way through it and i’m ready to scream LOL.

tom yam soup
Tom Yam Soup

The Seafood Tom Yam Soup however is really not worth it. For RM8.50 i could get better ones. Although the portion is big, they were stingy on the seafood was. 3 or 4 tiny shrimps and few teeny weeny pieces of cuttle fish considered as seafood ar??.

Nevertheless, i think it’s worth another visit for it’s good service and decent food. Our food arrived in no time at all.

Tom Yam Soup – RM8.50
Beef Curry with Rice – RM7.50
Chicken Chop – RM13.90
Sour Plum Lime Juice – RM3.50
Total: RM35.05 (RM33.90 + RM1.67 – Service Charge)

*Sky Juice – FOC (Refillable)

Meng Kee’s Char Siew

Ok. Both Mr. Boyfriend and i had been meaning to eat at Meng Kee for quite some time now. Mr. Boyfriend was raving about their fantastic char siew (BBQ pork), possibly the best in KL. People had been reviewing about this place for years. Being the outdated me, i have not even tried the char siew at this joint.

Unfortunately, each time we were around Bukit Bintang area, the place is either closed for business, buzzing over packed with hungry patrons or they had run out of char siew. Well, i guess that shows how famous this shop is hor.

We however finally found our way into the shop last weekend. We were running late because there’s only limited char siew left. I find the char siew just so-so. It was decent and the charred skin was nice but not as good as i had expected (given all the positive review). Have the quality dropped or have my taste bud gone crazy? Mr. Boyfriend also admitted that it doesn’t taste as good as before. Hmmm… maybe we came a little late so the good ones were sold already?

Just the char siew and 2 plate of rice cost about RM12.00.

Punters Paradise

Just the other day i there was a year 2005 show on TV titled Racing Stripes. It was about an abandon zebra that believed he was a racehorse. The movie was pretty cheesy but it hit me how big and how exciting horse racing is. Just the adrenaline of watching the horse race is enough to make anyone a die hard fan.

Apparently horse racing is pretty big in Australia. They even have a website called Punters Paradise dedicated for horse racing. Punters Paradise is an ultimate social networking site for fans of horse racing. The website offers all kinds of information such as daily reports and the latest horse racing news, betting tips and info, a horse racing forum and others.

With the Melbourne Cup (Australia’s major annual thoroughbred horse race) coming this November, it’s hard not to get excited. After all it is regarded as the most prestigious “two-mile” handicap in the world. The event is held on the first Tuesday in November by the Victoria Racing Club in Melbourne. I bet Punters Paradise have all the juicy news for the grand event.
