I would kill for dessert. Ice creams especially.

yokomonmascot
Yokomon monster! Arghhhh

I first saw the Yokomon Ice Cream kiosk at the Curve concourse area during last Christmas. There was a large crowd waiting to have a taste of the yummy new ice cream. I didn’t get some myself coz i thought it was a tad expensive for a scoop of ice cream plus the crowd was crazy.

All types of flavor

Later when i wanted to give it a try, the kiosks wasn’t there anymore. However, good news is the Yokomon outlet is actually located at Cathay Cineilesure Damansara. I was really curious why this particular Japanese ice cream is so popular.

Yokomon has other selection of flavors that are worth a try such as Azuki (red bean), Goma (black sesame), Daku Choko (dark chocolate), Ramu Reezun (rum raisin), Ichigo (strawberry). I selected the maccha (green tea) flavor ice cream coz i love maccha.

The process of preparing the ice cream is pretty cool. The ice cream comes in a small plastic tube per serving. The plastic tube is taken out from the freezer and placed into the ice cream making machine. Then after the lever is wound up, the machine will extract the ice cream from the tube and the ice cream will come out. Somehow, the result is a soft and swirly ice cream ready to be consumed.

The ice cream is thick and quite unique. If compared to Mindori’s ice cream, this one is not too heavy on the green tea taste so it’s not bitter at all.

The ice cream is priced at RM6.90 but if you have a movie stub with you it’s cheaper by i think RM1. Don’t forget your movie stub ;P

Ninja Jones Japanese Restaurant

Filed Under (Food in Kuala Lumpur, Food in Malaysia, Food in Mid Valley City, Halal, Japanese Cuisine) by kuanfoodfetish on 19-02-2008

Reading most of the review on Ninja Jones Izakaya, had me quite tempted to have a visit myself. For the wonderful unique food and also to have a look at the famous macho ninjas of course.

Located opposite of Northpoint Midvalley Megamall, all you need to is to walk out of the mall and turn right. Walk till the end and cross the red pedestrian bridge (after Spring Garden Restaurant) towards the residential apartments. Take the escalator down to another floor. Then just look for the popular Ninja Jones door on your right.

The restaurant entrance is cave-like. The hostess will press a red button to open the sliding door. Very mysterious and cool. Once the door slides open you will see a dimly lit narrow passage, very much like a secret passage in a stone cave. We were led upstairs by a… ahem ninja… well… someone dress like a ninja anyways. The waitresses were dressed in red while the waiters were dressed like ninjas. Cute.

We were seated on a table for to upstairs.

I was quite surprise at how spacious the restaurant were. The wood and stone themed interior was mysterious and romantic. The soft music playing in the background paired with the projected video of the nature and ocean on the wall left me feeling peaceful and calm. Perfect for a romantic night out.

coldsake
Cold sake

There’s no charges for green tea. It’s on the house. We had that and also ordered the cold sake. It’s my first time having sake. Sweet! *hic hic!

If you prefer other type of sake, there’s loads to choose from. Plum sake, hot sake, etc. There are also other drinks to choose from such as beer, juices, and liquor.

The menu was quite impressive with tones of food to choose from ranging from rice, noodles, beef grills, sashimi, sushi, sets and lots more.

kobebeef
150 gram of sliced Kobe Beef

We heard that the grill Wagyu Beef which cost less than RM50.00 is particularly delicious so we wanted to have a try. However, our waitress recommended Kobe Beef instead. It’s new and not in the menu yet. So, what the heck. We said yes to 150gram of Kobe Beef.

The waitress actually had mentioned the price of the beef to us but i didn’t notice. I knew Kobe Beef is expensive but i had know idea it was so blardy EXPENSIVE till the bill came later -_-”.

Anyways, we were given the option to grill the beef ourselves at our table or they could have it grilled for us in the kitchen. We opt for the first. It’s more fun that way plus we could enjoy it slowly while it’s hot. *wakaka!

beefgrill
Grilling the most tasty and tender beef i’ve ever tasted.

The secret it to not over-cook it and to take it off the grill before the oil and fats drips into the fire. Else, the fire will rise.

I have to admit that it was the best tasting beef i’ve ever had in my life. I swear it’s orgasmic! It’s tender and there’s no musky taste at all. Dipped in sesame oil, and that’s it. Plus, the thin size of beefs doesn’t leave you feeling stuffed or over-filled at all. A real value for money. If you’re going to Ninja Jones, i urge you to try this.

spiderroll
Spider roll

Everytime we’re at a Japanese restaurant or outlet we never fail to order some Spider Roll. It’s absolutely my all time favorite sushi. So, naturally we place an order for Spider Roll while in Ninja Jones.

I prefer the Spider Roll in Hajime compared to this. However, it doesn’t mean that the Spider Roll here is not tasty. On the contrary, it was yummy and crunchy. It’s just that i prefer Hajime’s because of the sesame seed sprinkled on the outer layer gives it a more aromatic taste. This ones with benito on the outside has a milder taste.

bakedseafood
Cheese bake seafood

Another mouthwatering dish not in the menu is that day’s chef specialty called Honey Dew Moto. It is seafood and scallop baked with cheese and honey dew. Top was decorated with chopped seaweed and caviar.

The cheese is not heavy and too overpowering. Paired with honey dew and caviar it brings out the freshness and sweetness of the seafood. Scrumptious and divine!

japmelon
stupid melon

Call me blur, call me ignorant. I had no idea what a Japanese melon was. Our waitress recommended the Japanese melon as dessert. She told us it’s a seasonal fruit and it’s quite rare. We actually didn’t want it but something come over us and we agreed.

I was so -_-” bengang when the plate full of sliced melon came to our table. *oh…. this is Japanese Melon… oh…. i’m so stupid… ohhh… i wonder how much this will cost us… shit! It’s just another type of honey dew. I had no idea of the actual name.

It cost us RM35.00 for the melon. *wtf! I could have a few melons from supermarket for that price. I swear i am gonna learn all the names and types of melon from now on… gee!

dessert
frosting cake

Our dinner ended with a complimentary sponge cake with frosting. Didn’t really like it LOL.

Ninja Jones Restaurant proved to be a unique place to visit. The food is excellent and the service is professional. Although the price is a tad bit pricey, i think the exquisite food makes up for it. If you do not want to have a surprise when the bill comes, always order from the menu (food on the menu are quite affordable) and always ask for the price of dishes not in the menu.

I give this restaurant a 2 thumbs up. However, it was really annoying how ‘hard-sell’ the waitresses there were. They were really trying insistent on selling their recommendations. *wakaka! Plus we waited almost 20 minutes for our bill but i think it’s only us being unlucky that’s all.

Kobe Beef (150gm) – RM195.00
Honey Dew Moto – RM68.00
Spider Roll – RM18.00
Japanese Melon – RM35.00
Cold Sake Reishu – RM23.00

Total Bill – RM389.85 (inclusive tax)

Valentine Affair

Love is in the air,
It’s time to show how much you care,
To show your love for the maiden of fair,
With pretty cupcakes with a zest of flair.

*i made that up. but hey i think i’m pretty good at it :P .

With lovey dovey Valentines Day approaching, i bet those in love are pretty excited over it… uhm… for females anyways. For couples in love, it’s the best time to rekindle the precious moment of falling in love and for singles in love, it’s time to tell her how much you love her.

So, guys out there have you prepared your Valentine gifts? No?! *hello?? its 4 days away! Stop eating CNY cookies and start searching for the best gift ever alright?!

Here some pretty Valentine themed cupcakes for year 2008. Trust me it’ll never go passé and it’ll work like a charm.

valentinecuppacakes
Cuppacakes 100% Love

My all time favorite cupcakes are from cuppacakes + wondermilk. Coz they have the most adorable designs for every festive season. Xmas, Halloween, Raya, CNY… you name it. Plus besides the muffin size the cupcakes also comes in mini sizes of 1 inch diameter. Super adorable i tell ya!

For this Valentines, they have come out with “100% Love”. Cheesy but girl dig it LOL.

valentinecuppacakesbisoukissmebox
Kiss Me Box

The popular favorite Bisou also not outdone by coming up with personalized Kiss Me Boxes throughout February. I haven’t seen the real thing yet but the pic in CLEO mag was good enough to get my attention. Bisou cupcakes are deliciously irresistibly isn’t it?

cupcakechic
Cupcake Chic leaflet

I’ve never heard of Cupcake Chic till last night. KidCheng showed me the leaflet. Apparently there’s a new cupcakes outlet in town. It’s located at the Curve Centre Court… i think near Gloria Jeans Coffee.

This new outlet has a pretty lean and mean introduction.

Let’s face it. Cupcakes have been around for ages and they are everywhere.

But GREAT cupcakes are hard to find.

When we started Cupcake Chic in early 2007, we decided we would bury the rampant “dumb blonde” cupcakes (which looked pretty but lacked quality) that had started to flood urban Kuala Lumpur and bring back THE cupcake to its original heyday.

cupcakechicmenu
Long List of menu at Cupcake Chic

The concept is different with a long list of cupcake flavors to choose from.

I have yet to visit this outlet myself but according to KidCheng, the cupcakes aren’t as pretty as the ones in other cupcake outlets but the concept is very very different.

Definitely something new in the cupcake arena.

I know i know. It’s too late to order the cupcakes. But they are open for order throughout February. There’s always Chap Goh Mei if you missed Valentines right? *muahahaha!!

Romantic Dinner on Princess Junk

Filed Under (Food in Hanoi, Food in Vietnam, Non Halal, Vietnamese Cuisine) by kuanfoodfetish on 09-02-2008

Enjoying sumptuous food on the deck of a luxurious junk in the middle of a bay. Looking over the water, surrounded by giant shadows of rocks. Flicker of lights from the many boats and junks nearby casting beautiful reflections on the water beneath.

This has got to be the most romantic and meaningful dinner. … if it wasn’t near to 5°C only out there.

nightview
Night view

It was so cold, the crew preparing our dinner outside on the deck was shivering and shaking all over. We didn’t know it was freezing outside when we chose to have dinner on the deck. We felt so sorry that we helped her take all the plates and utensils back into the cabin and prepare the table again. *poor girl was shivering ma…

fries
Fries as appetizer… way too filling LOL

Uhm… the appetizer was kinda weird. Fries and… a whole plate of sliced cucumber. Maybe the crew is afraid that the fries will be too heaty for us? *wakaka!

cucumber
Another appetizer… cucumber… uhm… weird…

Thank god we had a BBQ theme dinner that night! However, by the third dish i was so full that i barely could consume anything else.

seafoodbbq
BBQ prawns and squid

Our first BBQ course was the prawns and squid. The presentation was beautiful. They actually carved out the popular landscape of Hoan Kiem Bridge in Hanoi using watermelon skin and carrot. I even recognized the leaves were from the hill we had climb during our stop on the beach in the noon. *no wonder we saw the cook coming down from the hill…

chickenbbq
Chicken BBQ. So touched…. our surname on the junk :)

We had a pleasant surprised when this came to our table. It’s a miniature junk made also from watermelon skin and carrot. Actually it was the Princess Junk, the same junk we were on. The cook even had our surnames on the sail. I was so darn touched. *no you can’t eat it!

beefbbq
Eagle looking over the beef BBQ.

Another beautiful carving. An eagle on the pineapple rock. It’s something about the culture of people in Hanoi where the eagle is represented by the head of the family looking over the family.

Our guide came out to explain to us each time the new dish was ready on our table. Each carvings has its own story to tell. Each story touches about the history and culture of Hanoi. Very very cool.

friedrice
Fried rice… so so only lar

What impressed me most about this wonderful dinner was in fact not the food. It was the effort taken on the decoration and presentation of each dish. Eventhough the crew members knew that we did not actually purchase the tour on this private junk but had been offered a ride as compensation, their service was still great and professional.

mango
Mango for dessert…
