Here we have is the famous Taiwan “Iron Eggs” (Tit Dan in Chinese) and the equally famous pineapple pastry.
Don’t worry, the eggs are not made with iron nor does it have metal in its substance. It is actually quail eggs. The small eggs are braised over and over again until it become tight and hard before it is compressed into airtight packets. No preservative or artificial sweetener. Its call “Iron Egg” because of its hard texture.
Taiwanese loves this snack and they would have it all the time when watching TV or reading. The texture is hard and chewy. Harder to chew than chewing gum. I didn’t quite like it at first. Imagine yourself chewing on PVC… But once you start munching on these cute eggs, you can’t stop. My family finished the whole packet in a day ![]()
If compared, i prefer the pineapple pastry. It quite big and shaped like a cake. Unlike our local pineapple pastry which i find very sweet, this Taiwan pastry is soft and not too sweet. Perfect for those who doesn’t prefer sweet things.
This ChiaTe pastry is quite famous in Taiwan… i was told. The brand had been operating since 1975 till now and ranked as top 1.
Hmmm… i wonder where i could get other Taiwan snacks in Malaysia… any idea?
