This has gotta be my worst dim sum experience ever. We drove to Jalan Ipoh for some dim sum for breakfast. The Meeboh Dim Sum shop was packed so we took seats at the restaurant next door coz EatAllYouCanShung told me there was a big big sign saying it’s a dim sum restaurant… *are you sure?? You’re getting old… Anyway, after looking at the photo again, i can’t see any ‘dim sum’ word. Maybe it’s in Chinese. Is there?? I’m a pure bred b.a.n.a.n.a. I can’t read Chinese. Go figure.

Tin Hoe what?

We found out that it was not a dim sum restaurant after all but it was too late coz we already sat down and ordered our drinks. It’s something like a food court where varieties of food like chicken rice, beef noodle and char siu rice. There was just a small dim sum stall at the front.

Nevertheless, i think it is not an excuse for the poor service. The place was streaming with workers doing i don’t know what. Everyone seems to be everywhere but still we couldn’t get someone to serve us some dim sum.

Dim Sum hero

This foreign worker was taking care of 2 stalls. The dim sum and also as the bread vendor. Talk about multitasking! He was the only one steaming up the dim sum, serving customers and also selling paus and bread. *so poor meh only one worker -_-”

bread
Boy don’t steal paus ok!

What was worst is that they only have four types of dim sums to choose from. Just four! We waited bout 1/2 hour to get served four types of pathetic dim sum!

2tray
Most expensive dim sum…crazy

We were seriously in such a bad mood, in the end we only took 2 dishes. Then we waited quite sometime again coz we can’t seem to get someone to bill us… Guess how much did we spent there?

An outrageous RM15! Just for 2 glasses of leong char and 4 pieces of dim sum! That’s RM3.90 for each tray and RM3.60 for each drink… WTF??!!!

It’s back to Fu Lai Kepong (in my opinion is the best) for dim sum from now on. At Fu Lai, we have the best service and the yummy dim sum only cost RM2.60 each tray.

I Went To J.Co Donuts & Coffee

not because everyone is going and definitely not because i am that kiasu so that i’ve gotta have what everyone else is having. I went there coz i love donuts. Good reason enough?

So here goes a short one.

I went there *duh! Saw the huge outlet’s J.Co‘s sign. Said to myself ‘Yay! Finally can try new donuts since Big Apple was..err… so-so only’. Walked in.

J.Co

Fark! Why so many kiasu people again?? Fortunately, the shop was not as warm as the Big Apple so i didn’t perspire like a hot pig baking in the sun. The outlet was exactly the same concept as the Big Apple except that J.Co has better design.

Excellent service. Friendly staff. Another thing i noticed was that they have paper boxes that fits 1, 2, or whatever number of donuts that you are purchasing. Big Apple only have boxes for 1/2 and 1 dozen pieces so if you buy less, they only provide a transparent plastic case.

Another good point is that they have something like a cafe so customers could buy some drinks and enjoy the donuts they bought indoors.

BerryBlue, MissGreenT, Oreology

Gotten myself Berry Blue, Miss Green T, Oreology which cost RM2.30 each. The donut itself is fluffier than Big Apples’. At least the toppings did not cover the taste of the donuts so i give them that. Berry Blue was kinda sweet and i didn’t really like it. Miss Green T was just plain weird and it felt like taking medicine coz the green tea flavor was way too strong. Oreology was nice which turned out to be a big surprise coz i thought it’ll be too sweet initially!

There you go. I’m done with my honest comments.

I’m in great danger of turning my blog into a food blog with all my postings about food! I thought of starting a separate blog to post about sumptuous mouth watering food so i could be on the bright path towards being a well known food critic *yeah right! but i am too lazy to maintain so many so… too bad. Just live with my rojak blog ok *wakaka.

Crystal Jade To Cure My Soul

Nothing works better than good food. Hence a trip to Crystal Jade La Mian Restaurant at Lot 10 the other day. This is i think 4th or 5th trip to the restaurant. They serve the best la mian and xiao long bao. Even Dragon-i and Nanxiang Mantou Dian in the Curve pale to comparisons.

Crystal Jade’s la mian is not oily like those in Dragon-i so you don’t get full as easily. The xiao long bao is moister than in other places which is one of the many reasons why i support this shop.

I’ve heard there’s a new outlet at The Gardens*i don’t know what’s the restaurants’ name that have even better xiao long bao but i’ve yet to pay a visit.

We were seated facing the open kitchen. I much prefer a seat at the other side of the shop coz of the transparent glass wall so you can enjoy the view of the street. But oh well… can cuci mata watching those macho la mian maker strutting their stuff is better than nothing.

One of the la mian maker looks like a Hong Kong star *i swear! I tried to take photos of him to show you guys but failed miserably. Hands were shaking too much coz i was starved.

He had the Spicy Beef La Mian (RM13.00). I’ve had this before. The beefs were tender and sweet. Just slightly spicy.

But for me the spicier the better. So more chilies please… err… don’t try this at home coz it’s really spicy!

What’s a trip to a Shanghai restaurant without some xiao long bao? So we had a tray of 4 tiny baos (RM8.00).

xiaolongpao
There’s 4 but we grab 2 so left 2. Hungry lar…

I ordered the Hot & Sour La Mian (RM12.00). The dish was very heavy with vinegar and very sour. But the portion was so huge!

hotsourlamian
Sournye…

This is something new i haven’t tried before. It’s the Pork Ball With Duck Egg Yolk served with cabbage and mushroom (RM17.00). The pork ball is really big (don’t be fooled by the pic in the menu). The size of your palm. We had a difficult time finishing it coz the yolk itself is very filling already. Nevertheless it was delicious. *eat it while it’s steaming hot.

I don’t know what was wrong with us for ordering so much food this time. I think all those was for a 4 persons meal. Normally we will order a la mian and another side dish to share… which is more than enough considering the portion of the la mian is actually sufficient for 2 persons.

Anyway while stuffing our face with all those food, i noticed seated on the next table were 2 skinny ladies. My eyes shifted enviously from their tiny waist to the dishes on the table…. uhm.. no wonder they’re stick skinny… they were practically rabbits munching on veges… *skinny bitches!

Skinny bithces!

We ended up having too much and went home feeling uncomfy… what a waste…

A Quick One At Restaurant Niji Sushi

Welcome to the establishment with the most ‘efficient’ staffs of the year.

Sudden craving for Japanese food brought us here, a newly opened outlet in Bandar Manjalara. It’s actually the second outlet in Manjalara area.

niji
Welcome to the land of the hunted

Food was just so-so. The presentation left much to be desired.

beef
Beef whatchamacallit??

If there’s any place where staffs could be too over ‘efficient’, it’s gotta be here. All the time i was sitting there, i felt like i was watched. Why? Well, i had 2 sips of hot green tea and all of a sudden the waitress was next to me re-filling my still full cup. I had another 2 sips and there she was again re-filling for me… and again and again…

After the food arrived, i tried to take some photos with my Lumix but i felt like the staffs were hawk-ng me. So i just took some quick pathetic shots. Noticed that the photos are so blur and the angle taken are kinda so unprofessional?

While we were shoving the last spoon of rice into our mouth, the waitress was already on stand-by mode to clear our table. Uhm… ok. Let her take the dishes away…

Then when we each picked our temaki roll, she took away our plates. We were left holding the rolls with no plates on the table. I was dumbstrucked by her idiocy. *made us feel so stupid. Tsk tsk…

temaki
Salmon skin and soft shell crab hand roll temaki

Anyway, I didn’t bother to memorize the name of the beef + rice tepanyaki dish coz i was so stumped by the ‘efficiency’ of the staffs there. Let’s just call it ‘beef whatchamacallit’. Plus i thought i could grab the receipt on the way out coz it might have the name on it but well, the highly ‘efficient’ staff pulled away the tab before i manage to take it. Uhm… i didn’t bother to ask for it from him again.

Approximately:-
Beef Whatchamacallit – RM20.00
Salmon Skin Temaki – RM4.00
Soft Shell Crab Temaki – RM4.00
2 green tea – RM3.50
