There are few reasons why i particularly like to visit small Thai restaurants/outlets anywhere i could find but in shopping malls. One of them is that these restaurants tends to have more authentic Thai food with heavier taste and aroma.

I love South East Asia food. Thai food being my fav after Vietnam food.

We were searching for some this evening and bumped into this recently opened restaurant in Kepong. Located just behind Carefour and near Metro Prima along the stretch of countless shops and dining outlets.

Restaurant Krua Thai – bad pic.

Besides the hideous painted wall behind, the place was not bad. Fairly spacious. Good service. Most of the staff speaks Thai and understands little English so i presumed that the owner is a Thai.

Look at the ugly wall behind…aiyo

The menu was extensive. Many many selections but we ordered only the tom yam chicken and chicken in pandan leaves *having a small stomaches sux! It turned out to be quite a large proportion for the two of us :) .

tomyam
Hungry!!! Gimme gimme gimme!

Uhm… the serving of rice wasn’t much. Don’t be fooled by my photo. The bowl is super small. I think a regular guy will have to order about 3 servings of rice.

rice
Big? No no. Small!

The tomyam soup was extremely sour *yummy!

I had never ate so much chicken at once in my life. Six pieces of the chicken in pandan leaves and damn alot of chicken in the tom yam soup. I repeat ‘damn alot’.

tomyamchicken
Omg! Chicken fest

Speaking of ‘damn alot’, the coconut meat was really thick. Thailand have great coconuts… *err somehow that doesn’t sounds right… Anyway, i spent about 20 mins scooping out the meat.

See the thick coconut meat

We spent:-

Tomyam Chicken – RM20.00
Chicken in Pandan Leaves – RM10.00
Coconut – RM3.50
Rice – RM3.00
Chinese Tea – RM0.50

Organically Incline At Justlife

Before i blog about the delish dishes available in this shop, let me just express my support *wakaka,

Support organic products for a better environment and a healthier lifestyle“.

No this is not a paid ad *boy i wish people pay me for writing!

Anyway, this is the concept of Justlife. Going organic is really the best way to save the planet and to improve our well-being.

The shop promotes and sells organic stuffs; fresh veges, mushroom, fruits, organic canned food, organic made bread, beans, juices, etc. Wait! They sell other products as well, like hair care, skin care and cosmetic products, baby food, household products and many more.

justlifeshop
Just life mini supermarket

Justlife is moderate sized and is divided into several sections so finding the right stuff is a breeze. There are fresh produce section, baby food and cereal section, cooking section and so on. Each product also comes with description on it’s health benefits. *i had no idea black beans could help lower cholesterol level…

vege
Organic produce

The fresh produces are mostly sourced from local farmers. Some are from overseas like Australia and other countries which i can’t recall now.

organiccanfood
Organic can food…hmmm….

The best is they have a small eating area (very comfortable) tucked in the right corner of the shop where you can relish on some organic dishes.

The menu changes everyday depending on the fresh produce available on that particular day. Meaning if let say today they have fresh picked mushroom, cabbage and asparagus, they will change the menu based on these few ingredients. It’s all about improvision *no need to look at the menu placed on the table coz it’s not the updated ones. Just ask the staff.

Great ambience. Very peaceful and worn down-looking.

There was a long bench made from parts of a lorry/truck. Nice!

familytable

The menu is divided into 2 categories. Heavy meal and light meal. Heavy meals normally consist of curry, burger, rice and such. Light meal will be mostly rolls and bread/buns.

We had the Justlife‘s organic vege burger. I forgot what the ingredients were but the patty was made of soya. It was great. The sesame seed tasted nuttier than usual. The side salad was super duper fresh! I loved it so much. Coming from a non-vege eater, that’s saying alot.

The vege roll was just as delicious. It’s the same selection of veges as the salad but with seaweed wrap, it’s sweeter. *yummy!

Initially we thought the vege roll is something like spring roll or popia. We have no idea it’s gonna be a temaki. So to get some varieties i recommend that you don’t order this if there is already salad on your first dish.

vegeroll
vege roll…

Nice right? There is a catch though. The price is rather expensive. The burger is RM18.90 while the roll is RM9.90! Hmm…

Ok ok. Considering it’s healthy organic food and we did have a great organic fun *coughit was organically worth it!

The Soya Shop Has the Best Milk and Balls

Soya milk and rice balls i mean :P .

soyashop
Wrong place dude!

soyamenu
The menu

They have the smoothes glutinous rice balls. *yummy! I had the red bean ones and absolutely i loved it. The texture is soft, not sticky at all and the filling was not too sweet.

soyaballs
I love balls!

soyaballs2
Delicious red bean filling

I enjoyed the fresh soya milk alot too. It was thick and aromatic compared to those bland soya milk you can buy outside.

Normally, i wouldn’t drink soya milk without added sugar but do take my advise to try it without sugar (both soya milk and glutinous rice balls). It will taste a bit musky but it gets better with every sip.

Definitely will stop by again next time for some ‘tau fu fa’. I heard that the ‘tau fu fa’ is damn good at The Soya Shop.

Asam Laksa spicier than Tom Yam?

Filed Under (Food in Malaysia, Food in Petaling Jaya, Food in Selangor, Halal, Malay Cuisine) by kuanfoodfetish on 10-09-2007

@_@ I thought no. It’s supposed to be the other way around right?

Wrong. I had the hottest asam laksa i ever had at Jusco Home Centre…

asamlaksa
Look at the chilis!

This is not the first time i’ve tried the Jusco’s asam laksa. The aroma is really really good. It doesn’t taste as good as it should but never fail to tempt me to sit down and have a bowl.

However, Jusco Home Centre in 1 Utama proved to have the meanest asam laksa of all. Damn spicy! To do justice, normally i can eat really spicy stuffs. But this time…O_o… But hey, asam laksa is suppose to be more sour than hot. Asam = sour. No?

chilis
Spicy shit!

Not those kind of tom yam-hot but like those chili padi-hot if you know what i mean.

asamlaksafinish
Soup red red wan….

Very ‘qi kik‘! Finished whole bottle of water…

What you staring at??!

Arghhh! I am having sore throat now. *:(
